THE YOGA OF SOUND: Mantras for Healing & Transformation
For Students at All Levels of Practice
Chanting accompanied by Daniel Johnson, tabla
Human beings sang before we could speak and ever since have made songs and chants to commune with the gods. One of the most sophisticated of these systems comes down through the yogic tradition of India and is known as mantra or nada-yoga, the yoga of sound. An integrative technology for healing and transformation, mantra-yoga works on the four levels of being: physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.
Although many mantras of this tradition are available through audio recordings, books, or online, it is always recommended to receive them from a teacher who has harvested the bounty of their power. Suzin is such a teacher. Her Yoga of Sound mantra workshops welcome participants into the extended family of mantras she has worked with for nearly forty years. These foundational mantras are the cornerstone of Yoga of Sound workshops.
Visualized as small beacons of light, Yoga of Sound healing mantras catalyze creativity, courage, compassion, and a radiance that illuminates the dark places within. Innate gifts, talents, and potentials are nourished and obstacles that have held us back dissolve. It is even possible to address chronic illness and pain with applied mantra practice.
A nurturing and astute guide, with a powerful musical presence, Suzin’s teaching is multi-faceted. Yoga of Sound workshops weave entertaining stories, rich commentary and insightful teachings with mantra chanting that is further enhanced with Daniel Johnson’s masterful drumming. Yoga of Sound workshops are accessible to beginner, intermediate, and advanced students and highly recommended for asana teachers. Participants leave with a sense of stillness, vitality, and joy they can then foster on their own using the take-home tool kit provided during this empowering day.

Kirtan Celebration with Prema Hara
Kirtan ~ the heart or essence of Bhakti ~ is in one sense impossible to define. It defies measurement and resists categorization. Kirtan means to share to celebrate, to praise and to glorify.
Kirtan forms a bridge between your outer and inner identities, expressing our desire to know and love the divine absolute. It is utter devotion towards God. The different Ragas and melodies create different moods of spiritual feelings from great joy of intimate association to deep spiritual lamentation in separation of God.
Kirtan transcends the artificial barriers imposed by the external world. It rises above skin color, age, gender, race, religion, or creed and does not depend upon classic vocal training or musical abilities. It is sung from the heart; it is raw, joyful, primeval.
